Southwold / Walberswick

25 minute drive: An English seaside resort as it used to be

Famous for its highly valued beach huts, Southwold offers you the chance to enjoy an English seaside resort as it used to be - absent are the arcades and candy floss, the fun fair and big wheel. Instead the quirky Electric Picture Palace (designed to reflect the styles of 1912), an iconic lighthouse, a splendid pier (don't miss the eccentric Under the Pier show), a lovely sandy beach and a pleasant whiff of malt from the wonderful Adnams brewery.

Across the River Blyth is Walberswick, until recently home of the annual British Open Crabbing Championship.
